On Saturday night, a deputy on patrol in the area of Brooke Road and Caroway Drive made a curious discovery when he came upon a Kia that was stuck in a ditch.

According to a spokesperson from the sheriff's office, the juvenile driver told the deputy he was heading home from a birthday party and wound up in the ditch because "his headlights are terrible," though they also made note that he had alcohol on his breath.

During the investigation, the teen admitted to consuming a Twisted Tea while at the party, and he was found in possession of a THC vape.

When asked by the deputy why he did not have a designated driver if he was going to drink, the juvenile answered a question with a question, simply saying "what's that?"

After this, he knows what a DD is.

Criminal complaints for driving under the influence, driving after illegally consuming alcohol, underage possession of THC and alcoholic beverages, as well as, reckless driving were submitted.

The spokesperson advised that there will be an increased police presence in the area in the days leading up to Halloween.

"With Halloween quickly approaching we encourage everyone who plans on consuming alcohol to plan ahead," he said. "Have a designated driver or order a ride using a rideshare app.

"We will have additional patrols around the holiday to ensure the safety of all drivers. Remember, drive sober or get pulled over."
